Making Rx: Taking the Case (Part 1) – Keys to Case Taking, Case Analysis, and Symptomatology

Chapter One of Taking the Case will discuss the Keys to Case Taking. This lecture will help you create a structured personalized approach to taking the homeopathic case. In this lecture hour, we will introduce the key components to handling homeopathic cases, including setting up the proper environment, intake forms, medical records, and and tips for scheduling appointments, so that you can develop a routine that works in your practice. We’ll discuss tips on gathering the right information from clients and scheduling the intial homeopathic intake.

We’ll review the handout ‘Guide Notes in Case Taking: Taking the Chronic Case’, which will guide us through the basic thought processes involved in taking a complete case. This Chronic Case Guide will follow the SOAP format (subjective, objective, assessment, and plan) developed in veterinary teaching hospitals, enlarging each section in order to include details important to the homeopathic practitioner. From current and historical complaints through diet, modalities/concomitants and temperament/disposition, we will demonstrate a method to gather data which will be useful throughout the life of this patient. Dr. Sarah Stieg will show you her equine and small animal homeopathic intake forms, to demonstrate how this can be implemented in practice within an electronic records system.
